In total, the school district owns a total of 350+ acres in Sauk County. This includes eight (8) school campuses as well as two (2) school forests. The Buildings & Grounds department is responsible for cleaning and maintaining all of these precious resources.
The schools consist of six (6) elementary buildings, one (1) middle school and one (1) high school. Our school forests, the Hartje Outdoor Learning Center and the Romorren School Forest, represent a combined total of 208 acres of open space. Both are open to the pubic as well as used for educational purposes. A network of hiking trails is maintained at the Hartje Center, which has proven to be a popular area for walkers, hikers and nature lovers.
In addition to the eight (8) schools, the Buildings & Grounds department is responsible for maintaining 33 additional buildings. These include everything from the Central Office Building to storage buildings located throughout the district.
A team of twenty-one (21) custodians work together everyday to clean over 580,000 square feet of interior space throughout the district. This represents over 13 acres of interior spaces that are maintained on a daily basis. We strive to maintain a safe and clean environment for the children and employees of this district. In addition to these cleaning duties, the custodial group is also responsible for transporting food, mail, and supplies around the district.
Our department is also responsible for 129 acres of maintained grounds, which includes several sports fields, physical education grounds, lawn space, walking trails and parking lots.
The Buildings & Grounds department has a total of twenty-eight (28) employees, including twenty-one (21) custodial staff, four (4) maintenance staff, one (1) secretary, one (1) part-time supervisor and one (1) manager.
The School District of Reedsburg contracts with ARAMARK Education Services for the management of the Buildings & Grounds department. This relationship has been in place since 1991.
