Any student who can be determined to be ‘habitually truant’ is defined as a student who is absent from school without an acceptable excuse for part of or all of five or more days on which school is held during a semester.
Truancy starts with five (5) unexcused absences in which a meeting may be scheduled to discuss barriers to getting to school. Truancy citations are the last resort for missing school. These citations can be issued to parents for Contributing to Truancy and also to students age 12 or older. In Reedsburg, the citation is the most costly citation issued, close to $700.
Our goal is to have all students enrolled in school attending on a regular, on-time basis, missing ten (10) days or less of school. The School District of Reedsburg is here to work together with parents to help remove barriers and issues that may cause a student to miss more school. Similar to having a job, parents need to attend work to get paid, as a child needs to attend school to get educated.
