The term “emergency virtual learning day” refers to a school day when instead of coming to a school building, teachers and students communicate online. The District is using the following guidelines for virtual learning:

  • Teachers will post work by 9:30 a.m. for the students they would have seen that day.
  • 4K students will utilize a Choice Board which includes a variety of activities. They can select one to work on per day.
  • K-2nd grade students can expect to work on Choice Board activities between 2-3 hours per day.
  • 3rd-12th grade students can expect to be working on assignments in Google Classroom for 3-4 hours per day.
  • Teachers will offer at least one synchronous virtual “office hours” opportunity for students and be available for individual student support throughout the day.
  • ESL, Interventionists, Academic Support, and Special Education teachers will also offer at least one synchronous virtual “office hour” during the day and will be available throughout the day for individual student support.

Note:  If the District has sufficient advance notice of an extended shutdown (e.g., a polar vortex that is forecast days in advance), we may move to virtual learning right away. With advance notice, staff will be able to prepare materials, and students will be able to bring materials (including technology) home.

Notifications for Emergency Virtual Learning Days:

  • Families will receive an automated phone call, text message, and email via the Skylert service. The District will also make announcements on the website and Facebook page, and radio and television stations before 6:30 a.m. that school will be closed.
  • Students should not report to school but should engage in virtual learning activities as assigned.
  • School staff will receive notice whether or not they need to report to their buildings based on weather conditions.
