In the School District of Reedsburg, we have three locations for four-year-old kindergarten, which are a combination of school and community-based sites. Below is an overview of our program.
What should my child know before coming to 4K?
Students who enter 4K should be ready to work in large and small group settings, and able to play with peers inside and outside the classroom.
What will my child be learning in 4K?
Students will be taught skills based on themes, such as art, library, music, cooking, and outdoors. Through these themes, students will learn basic readiness skills such as the alphabet, numbers, counting, and reading and writing their name. Socially, students will learn to work with peers, manage emotions and feelings, and attempt to solve problems by themselves.
What should parents expect from the 4K program?
Parents should expect that students will be learning through hands-on activities that focus on the process, not the product while following a schedule and routines that allow for child-initiated and teacher-directed learning. These activities will help students practice fine motor, social, and listening skills, as well as language development.
Lesson plans include learning activities for individual children, small groups, and the entire class.
Tell me about attendance expectations.
Based on the program your child participates in, days and times vary. However, attendance is expected on days when the 4K program is in session.
How to register my child for 4K?
If you have a child/ren currently enrolled in the School District of Reedsburg, please log in to your Skyward Family Account, then go to the "New Student Online Enrollment" link in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. This will lead you through the online registration process for your 4K child for the next school year.
If your family is NEW to the district, please visit the "New Student Enrollment" page and follow steps to register your child online.
How is my child's 4K site chosen?
Parents may indicate their location preference. However, if a site is full, you will need to make a second choice.
