The Hartjes wanted the outdoor site to be used by the school district to help children learn to enjoy and appreciate the beauty and wonder of nature. They also asked that the area be open to any and all who might choose to enjoy the outdoors. To that end, the trails are available to anyone throughout the year who may wish to hike, ski and snowshoe. The property, including the buildings, may also be used by anyone.

Hands-On Learning
The Hartje Outdoor Learning Center is a great place for hands-on learning for students. Students of all ages attend field trips to the natural site to enjoy and explore the outdoors. In 2016, the school forest was tapped by fourth-graders for making Maple Syrup and the expansion of that hands-on learning experience continues. Learn more about how the district is utilizing the Sugar Bush for an educational opportunity.
