The School District of Reedsburg Board of Education has adopted the Wisconsin Academic Standards as the standards to which all of our curricula are aligned. The Wisconsin Academic Standards specify what students should know and be able to do in the classroom. Wisconsin has academic standards for separate content areas. Academic standards are important because they serve as goals for teaching and learning. Setting rigorous standards enables students, parents, educators, and citizens to know what students should have learned at a given point in time. Clear statements about what students must know and do are essential to ensure that our schools offer opportunities to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for success and prepare our students to be college and career-ready following high school graduation.

The Wisconsin Model Academic Standards (WMAS) for Science (1998) are the current state standards. These standards contain many high-quality ideas for effective science instruction. No timeline currently exists for reviewing or changing state science standards. Notably, school districts have local control over what standards they choose to adopt and use. Some districts across the state, including the School District of Reedsburg, are moving forward with implementing the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) built from the NRC Framework for Science Education and the ACT College and Career Readiness Standards in Science. With the Wisconsin Society for Science Teachers' support, a committee led by Eric Brunsell completed a crosswalk of the NGSS and WMAS.
