Skylert System Update

Skylert System not working properly

Last Updated January 25, 2021 - ATTENTION: The Skylert messaging system that the district utilizes to send messages to ALL of our families and staff continues to have technical issues with its SMS-text message portion of the direct-messaging program.

Also, we have noticed if families HAVE NOT saved in their contacts on their cell phones, our district phone number (608) 524-2016, which is used to send out these important messages, it may show up as a 'potential spam call' due to the recipients cellular service provider or third-party call blockers.

Please know we can still send out our messages via voice calls and emails, so please watch for those communication channels for all messages from our district. Thank you for your patience with these issues.

Help Improve Internet Speeds in Our Community in 3 Clicks

Broadband Speed Test

Last Updated January 22, 2021 - To help improve internet speeds across Wisconsin, the Department of Public Instruction is teaming up with Measurement Lab, a non-profit broadband advocacy organization, to test home internet connection speeds. You can help out by testing your home internet speed with Measurement Lab’s broadband speed test. All it takes is three clicks--it’s that easy.

Why Is This Important?
The data will give the Governor’s Task Force on Broadband Access (and other broadband task groups) the information they need to target improvements where internet speeds and performance are poor.

Your Input Is Critical
In order to get an accurate picture of the state, we need a lot of accurate data. That’s where you come in. The more people take the broadband internet speed test, the clearer picture we can get of where internet speeds need the most help.

To get started:

  1. Click on the link to the M-Lab broadband speed test.
  2. Agree to the Data Policy.
  3. Click Begin to start the test.
  4. Consider running the test multiple times, at different times of day, as your internet speed can often vary throughout the day.

Thank you for your help in improving internet speeds in our community!

4K-2nd Grades Return To In-person Instruction 4 Days A Week

Return to in-person learning 4K-2

Last Updated January 11, 2021 - This is an important message for families of 4K-2nd graders regarding the return to in-person instruction 4 days a week for your child.

The district has been working on a plan to bring all of our students in 4K thru 2nd grade back to school four days a week. The school board authorized the hiring of enough teachers to help decrease class sizes in order to safely bring these students back to school four days a week. We were able to hire five teachers to put the plan into motion.

Beginning January 25th, 4K-2nd grade students participating in the hybrid model will transition to in-person instruction 4 days a week, with Wednesday remaining as a virtual school day. With the additional teaching positions, we are able to keep class sizes small enough to provide safe physical distancing. The all-virtual model of instruction will remain an option.

We continue to consider options for all of our students, but there are no changes at other grade levels to report at this time.

If you have any questions regarding this transition, please contact your child’s school.

3rd-5th Grades Return To In-person Instruction 4 Days A Week

Return to in-person learning 3-5

Last Updated January 19, 2021 - At the Board of Education meeting last evening, it was decided to return to in-person instruction 4 days a week for 3rd-5th grade students participating in the hybrid learning model beginning February 8th, with Wednesdays remaining as a virtual school day. The all-virtual model of instruction will remain an option.

Though we remain committed to facilitating as much physical distance between one another as possible, we will not be able to provide a distance of six feet during many segments of the school day, including on the bus.

Grades 4K-2nd will return to in-person 4 days a week starting January 25th. The district continues to consider options for grades 6th-12th, but there are no changes to report at this time.

If you have any questions regarding this transition, please contact your child’s school.

COVID-19 Data Dashboard

COVID-19 Data Dashboard

Last Updated January 25, 2021 - The School District of Reedsburg has created a COVID-19 Data Dashboard to provide our families with information on the state of the COVID-19 virus in our district and how this data impacts decision-making for classroom/school closures.

The district will update the number of confirmed cases, recovered cases, and active cases in the district, as well as the number of students and staff who are currently absent from school with COVID-like symptoms or quarantined due to possible exposure. This information will be updated weekly on Mondays unless there is a drastic change in which case the district will notify families via a Skylert message.

Since the beginning of the school year, the district has implemented the CDC recommended protocols for positive COVID-19 cases in schools. Our school district nursing staff are working in collaboration with the Sauk County Health Department when a positive case of COVID-19 occurs within our district.

If your child exhibits any symptoms of COVID-19, we ask that you keep him/her home and seek the advice of your medical provider immediately. Some symptoms of COVID-19 may include fever, new cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, headache, fatigue, muscle aches, or loss of taste or smell. Symptoms typically start to appear 2-14 days after exposure. If your child doesn't have symptoms and you want them tested, you can access testing through Sauk County FREE COVID-19 test sites.

Virtual Learning Offered During Inclement Weather Days

Virtual Learning on Snow Day

Last Updated November 15, 2020 - The School District of Reedsburg will hold virtual learning on days that would otherwise be lost to school closure (ie. inclement weather), which should eliminate the need to make up lost instructional hours later in the school year. COVID-19 has accelerated the district into fully accommodating virtual learning at all grade levels.

Teachers have prepared online lessons and assignments for inclement weather days when needing to pivot to a virtual learning model. Students in grades K-2nd will utilize SeeSaw, students in grades 3rd-12th will utilize Google Classroom, and students in 4K will utilize the Choice Board method (students should have received one that is good for up to five days). On the morning of a ‘Snow Day’, please check for an email or message in SeeSaw or Google Classroom from your child’s teacher for the virtual day classroom instructions. Teachers will be available online during the course of the virtual day.

Please note: If your child is in the 100% Virtual Learning model, their day will go on as normally planned.

As district leaders make a decision, their most significant concern is the safety of our students and staff. (Closure and Emergency Procedures) When the decision is made to pivot to a virtual school day, delay the start of school or dismiss school earlier than scheduled, the district does its best to notify parents and caregivers in a variety of ways. First, a Skylert message will be sent (phone, text, and email) for all weather-related changes to our school day. Please make sure to keep your contact information updated with your child's school.

In addition, the district adds an Emergency Banner notification at the top of each page on its website. The banner is RED and includes pertinent information regarding a closing, delay, or other information. Bookmark the district website www.rsd.k12.wi.us and check it the next time Mother Nature rears her ugly head.

Weather-related changes can also be found on the district's Facebook page and local television and radio stations.

Cold-Weather Clothing Reminder

Winter Clothing Reminder

The cold weather season is here and we have noticed some children coming to school without the proper attire. All students are required to go outside for recess unless they have a doctor’s excuse. Students should have hats, gloves or mittens, snow pants, and boots when going outdoors. Students who do not have boots and snow pants will have to stay on the blacktop during recess.

If you need assistance in obtaining appropriate winter gear, please contact your child's school office or the district social worker, Erica Reuber-Lehr at (608) 524-2016 Ext. 2021 or elehr@rsd.k12.wi.us.
