Why Reedsburg?
The School District of Reedsburg is located in the beautiful rolling hills of Sauk County, WI, approximately 60 miles northwest of Madison, and is the fastest-growing community in Sauk County. Student success is at the heart of everything we do. Multiple generations of families have raised children in Reedsburg and attend our district schools. Reedsburg is a tight-knit community of people who genuinely care about students' success. Our state-of-the-art communication, arts, and learning center, as well as our extensive list of activities and athletics, mean students have many opportunities in the School District of Reedsburg. From four-year-old kindergarten through high school, we're preparing each and every student for the future by striving for excellence.
In November 2024, our community passed a $14 million referendum for capital improvements to the high school in two phases. The first (2025), will renovate the library, large group room, and two adjacent classrooms to create the new Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship; and lightly renovate the commons area with an add school store in the space. The second phase (2026), is for improvements to our High School Construction Trades, Manufacturing and Engineering, and Agriculture spaces; and a new greenhouse and provide space for new and innovative programs in Agriculture, Animal Science, and Natural Resources.

Last Updated March 5, 2025 - The Board of Education for the School District of Reedsburg is excited to announce the appointment of Tom Burkhalter as the next Superintendent, effective July 1, 2025.
Tom Burkhalter currently serves as the superintendent of Viroqua Area Schools and has worked for VAS since 2020. Before this role, he worked in the Clintonville School District for two years as an elementary principal and one year as the associate middle school principal and athletic director. His other administrative experience includes being a parochial school principal in Independence, Wis., and dean of students in both Princeton and Waupun School Districts. Burkhalter began his career as an FCS instructor for Columbus and Fall River High Schools.
On becoming the new superintendent in Reedsburg, Burkhalter stated, "I am honored to serve as the next superintendent of the School District of Reedsburg. Having grown up in Union Center, Reedsburg was always the 'big city' where we did our shopping. My wife (Kim) and I, along with our three sons, Will (11), Owen (9), and Jake (5), are excited to become part of this wonderful community. I've spent my career focused on building strong schools through clear communication, community engagement, and student-centered leadership. As superintendent for Viroqua Area Schools for the past five years, I worked closely with staff and families, improved district communication, and ensured access to important community resources. I look forward to bringing that same commitment to collaboration and transparency to Reedsburg."
Burkhalter earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, his principal licensure from Marian University, and his superintendent licensure from Edgewood College. He will complete his doctorate from Edgewood College later this year.
“We are thrilled to appoint Tom Burkhalter as our next superintendent because we believe he has the ideal blend of visionary leadership, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to student growth and achievement,” said Gary Woolever, Board President. “We want to thank everyone involved in this process who has made their voices heard. We look forward to seeing Tom's impact on our students, staff, families, and community as we move forward together.”
Burkhalter will officially begin his duties as superintendent on July 1, 2025, and Dr. Roger Rindo will continue until his retirement on June 30, 2025.
