When students and families take the time to plan schedules for the following school year, they pass that information along to the RAHS School Counseling department, who in turn, puts a great deal of effort into creating schedules to best meet the needs of students. With this in mind there will be very few schedule changes. There needs to be a compelling reason for a change to take place.
- A student may request a schedule change with the School Counseling Department; only requests received within the schedule-change window or by the posted deadlines will be considered.
- Typically, semester one schedule change requests must be submitted to a School Counselor before the end of June and semester two requests before winter break.
- Exceptions may be granted for scheduling errors, credit remediation, or other extenuating circumstances.
- Within the first 5 days of a semester, courses may be added or dropped in the event of an error or extenuating circumstance. After the first 5 days, dropped courses may only be replaced with a study hall.
- Before the School Counseling will change the schedule of a student with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), the student must first receive written approval from the student's Case Manager.
- Students will be allowed to drop a class within three weeks of the beginning of each semester.
- A withdrawal request after three weeks will result in a "W" on the student's transcript.
- A withdrawal request after one quarter will result in a "W" if the student is passing the course or a "WF" if the student is failing the course on the student's transcript. The "WF" will be factored into the student's grade point average (GPA).
- Administration will make the final decision on all schedule change requests.
- Seniors: If you have already submitted your transcript and/or application to a college, it is important that you contact the college admissions office before dropping a class to determine if the schedule change could impact your admission status.
