2019-2020 Second Semester Grading at RAHS (in response to COVID-19 - posted 4/22/2020)
For the second semester of the 2019-2020 school year, teachers will provide grading feedback in the following ways:
-
All Second Semester grades will move to Pass/No Pass
-
A final Pass/No Pass course grade will be assigned by the instructor with consideration of student engagement in the learning process and attainment of minimum standards.
-
Pass/No Pass will freeze GPA as it stands after the first semester. Second semester Pass/No Pass grades will not impact GPA. Therefore, the final graduation GPA calculation for students in the Classes of 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 will encompass seven semesters rather than eight semesters.
-
Seniors - RAHS can send a notification/letter to colleges regarding Pass/No Pass policy for the second semester if needed.
-
End-of-semester finals will not be held. The pass/no pass grades will be based on a culmination of student work from the entire semester, including work done prior to moving into virtual learning.
The change to a Pass/No Pass model will protect the academic progress and advancement of all students who are negatively impacted by the pandemic and/or virtual learning. Critical points of information regarding the Pass/No Pass grading system are listed below.
-
Determinations of a Pass/No Pass standard of grading are most appropriate for virtual learning this semester, especially given that this is new practice for all of us.
-
A Pass/No Pass model allows students to earn credits and eliminates the need to make adjustments to graduation requirements.
-
The Pass/No Pass system will freeze GPA as it stands after the first semester. Second semester Pass/No Pass grades will not impact GPA.
-
Students earning a “Pass” will be awarded course credit.
As a school community, our goal is first and foremost the well-being of our students. We understand this situation is challenging in many ways. But we know that if we work together with flexibility and kindness, our students will experience success in this new learning format.
